Over the Influence: The Harm Reduction Guide for Managing Drugs and Alcohol
by Patt Denning, Jeannie Little & Adina Glickman
Book Club hosts Kevin Mosley, LCSW (Counselor with the Stonewall Project) and
Terry Morris (Speed Project Coordinator) invite you to check out this amazing
book by the Harm Reduction Therapy Center. You are welcome to read it as a
purely intellectual pursuit or as an invitation to explore your own unique
relationship to and goals around substance use and/or alcohol use.
We drink strong coffee, read, and chat as we go.
"Imagine if all that counted in helping people with drug problems were science,
compassion, health, and common sense. Imagine if the bottom line were
simply a matter of helping people get their lives together, one step at a time,
in their own particular way. Read this wonderful book,
and what you imagine just might become real. "
-Ethan Nadelmann, PhD, Executive Director, Drug Policy Alliance.

STONEWALL WALK IN INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
The Stonewall Project is a counseling program dedicated to providing
alternative harm reduction-based treatment to gay men, transmen who
have sex with men, and other men who have sex with men with drug and
alcohol problems. We welcome participants at all stages of readiness,
and do not require abstinence to receive services.
The Stonewall Project provides a full range of counseling services
that integrate substance use, mental health, and HIV prevention and education
from a participant-centered perspective. The goal of the Stonewall Project is to
create a safe space where gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM)
who use crystal meth, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, alcohol and/or other drugs
can come to deal with issues of concern to them without stipulations, conditions or judgments.
The aim of treatment is to reduce the harm caused to them, their loved ones, and their
communities by their drug or alcohol use. As a program rooted in harm reduction,
participant treatment goals vary across the harm reduction spectrum and can range
from complete abstinence to controlled or safer use based on a desire to improve
health, relationships, or one's functioning in the world.
